A development known as Huckleberry Community sprang up at the edge of Orlando in the 1980’s. The concept for this 1800 acre planned community was based on Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in case you had wondered about the names of the streets which were taken from characters in the books. The first subdivision to be opened occurred in 1986 and was advertised as The Crossroads at Huckleberry Fields, which we today know as Crossroads. The area was relatively new for expansion without much around except for Martin Marietta and a fire station.

Fast forward to today and the entire area is unrecognizable compared to what the “old timers” remember as rural Orlando. Waterford Lakes (Huckleberry changes name in 1990) and its’ neighbors are becoming a thriving City onto their own, and Crossroads is part of this growth. We are seeing a second generation of homeowners in Crossroads who moved here to be part of this energy. This sense of community is part of the original inception for Crossroads and is a strong belief held by many of its inhabitants today.
